The University of Illinois Urbana‑Champaign has officially named Dr. Charles Lee Isbell Jr. as its next Chancellor, succeeding Robert Jones. A distinguished computer scientist and academic leader, Dr. Isbell is set to usher in a new era of innovation and public engagement at UIUC. 

The Champaign Police Department is joining the Illinois Department of Transportation, Illinois State Police, and more than 200 law enforcement agencies across the state in a traffic safety campaign focused on impaired and unbuckled drivers. The high-visibility enforcement runs from June 20 through July 7, covering the Independence Day holiday.

Juneteenth, officially known as Juneteenth National Independence Day, is a U.S. federal holiday observed every year on June 19. It commemorates the day in 1865 when Union General Gordon Granger reached Galveston, Texas, and announced General Order No. 3, declaring the freedom of more than 250,000 enslaved people—over two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued.
