Carolyn Borcherding, graduated from the University of Illinois last year with a Doctorate in Music Composition. After graduating last year she landed a job at the Baldwin-Wallace Conservatory of Music where she is now a tenured track professor. She came back this week to give a presentation to UIUC music composition students. Carolyn's works have been performed internationally.
During her presentation she played some of her music and music that influenced her. Carolyn's composition "Integrity of Heart" Recently won the University of Illinois School of Music's 21st Century Piano Commission Award. Carolyn and her pianist will be awarded one thousand dollars each as part of the award. The piece will premiere tonight at 7:30 in the Great Hall.
Carolyn also addressed the challenges of advising undergraduates mentioning sometimes the difficulty is finding the forms and sometimes its reminding students they have time to figure things out when they graduate, "life isn't a rush."
