Last week, the Illini women's basketball team experienced a big upset against Indiana. Unfortunately, they were unable to carry that same momentum over to Carver-Hawkeye Arena. The Illini lostin Clark and the Hawkeyes yesterday. In the loss, five Illini players managed to score double-digit points. Mazie Gierat is here in the studio to tell us more about the game.

The men's tennis team of the University of Illinois has achieved an impressive feat by moving up to the 11th spot in the national rankings. They have been on an upward trajectory in recent weeks, and Caleb Noble from Illini Sports Night has been closely following their progress. Despite starting the season with a record of two wins and two losses, the team has found their rhythm and is performing exceptionally well. Some of the upperclassmen believe that having a strong veteran presence in the team is a significant factor contributing to their success.

A rare natural event is happening this May which occurs only once in a lifetime. For the first time in 221 years, Cicada Broods Thirteen and Nineteen will emerge simultaneously in Illinois. While we will be able to see Brood Nineteen in Champaign County, there is also a possibility of seeing Brood Thirteen in the area. Our reporter Maggie Knutte has spoken with Cicada experts to get more information about what to expect this summer.

Ice Arena Student Referendum

As a summary, there is an ongoing referendum in this year's election that asks students whether they would approve of new fees to be added to their tuition. The goal is to help save the rink as it is. If the students approve a 13 dollar fee, the space will be renovated, and it will stay at its current location. On the other hand, if they choose the other option, it means changing the ice arena completely. In addition, if the students approve a five dollar increase, the ice will be removed, and it will be replaced with multi-use courts, including e-sports.

Students rely on libraries for their academic and personal growth. However, there is some unfortunate news. Two local libraries, the Ikenberry and Illinois Street Residence Hall libraries, will be permanently closing after this semester. According to library staff, the reason for closure is due to an overlap in their resident programs. This news comes as a disappointment to students who have been utilizing these libraries for their educational needs. Vivian La has this report.

Activities and Recreation Center Drops Mask Rules

This semester, the University of Illinois announced that students would no longer be required to wear a mask at the Activities and Recreation Center. This new mask rule, has brought new students to the ARC this semester to get their exercise, play basketball and participate in active classes.
