A rare natural event is happening this May which occurs only once in a lifetime. For the first time in 221 years, Cicada Broods Thirteen and Nineteen will emerge simultaneously in Illinois. While we will be able to see Brood Nineteen in Champaign County, there is also a possibility of seeing Brood Thirteen in the area. Starting off with some campus news, the Illinois student councilg place today and tomorrow. This election is expected to bring significant changes to the Illinois student council, including the selection of student senators and the student organization resource fee board.

As a summary, there is an ongoing referendum in this year's election that asks students whether they would approve of new fees to be added to their tuition. The goal is to help save the rink as it is. If the students approve a 13 dollar fee, the space will be renovated, and it will stay at its current location. On the other hand, if they choose the other option, it means changing the ice arena completely. In addition, if the students approve a five dollar increase, the ice will be removed, and it will be replaced with multi-use courts, including e-sports.

Students rely on libraries for their academic and personal growth. However, there is some unfortunate news. Two local libraries, the Ikenberry and Illinois Street Residence Hall libraries, will be permanently closing after this semester. According to library staff, the reason for closure is due to an overlap in their resident programs. This news comes as a disappointment to students who have been utilizing these libraries for their educational needs. Vivian La has this report.
